Our community is special for many reasons. Its natural beauty, its traditions, its spirit, and its people make it what it is. The Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee region--our New Hampshire Upper Valley--is our home, our community.
At greatgrandmother.org, our vision for a local and sustainable food system in New Hampshire is to build a self-reliant system based on respect for the earth and the people who tend the soil. Our careful attention to the land builds thriving, abundant soils that provide healthy, nutritious vegetables, fruits, and animals so that we may, as a community, support our own healthy, successful family gardens, farms, and communities.
This abundant and generous way of life celebrates our connectedness, our diversity, and our healthy interdependence. Neighbors helping neighbors—the New Hampshire way of life.
And, we know that our interdependence and geographic location allows us to partner and connect with our neighbors in Vermont, our friends in Maine, and our fellow gardeners and farmers in northeastern Massachusetts and upstate New York. This is our broader community. We couldn't be in better company!
What is Community Food Security? Click here to find out!
We set out to serve a circle of twenty communities, and as our popularity has grown so has our reach. Although our focus on local eating and sourcing of food remains within that magical 100 miles, or in the case of a small state like New Hampshire, within our northern New England, western Massachusetts, and upstate New York agricultural region, the scope of the topics we cover is truly international. Essays from our nation's best food writers will often grace the screen, as will thoughts from local humorists and ideas from New England foodies.
When the topic turns to our global, industrial food systems, and its security, we can't help but cast a wide net. But when the topic is sweet locally-grown strawberries or grass-fed pigs, we instantly turn to the communities of Lebanon, Enfield, Plainfield, Gratham, Springfield, Grafton, Cornish, Croydon, New London, Wilmot, Sunapee, Newport, Claremont, Charlestown, Newbury, Sutton, Unity, Goshen, Bradford, and Warner.
